[Cytometry] Copmensation for intracellular stainings

Dear Flow-lovers

I have a question, perhaps stupid...

A colleague of mine asked about compensations controls using beads.
He performs intracellular and extracellular stainings. Can he use
beads only, or should he combine beads and cells?
He also uses secondary antibodies in some cases. The stainings are
performed on murine cells.

Thankful for thoughts and comments,

Best wishes
