Flow Cytometry Specialist
(Research Specialist, Laboratory)
DESCRIPTION:
An exciting opportunity exists to be responsible for the day to day
operation of the Flow Cytometry Core Facility including schedule, operation
of the instruments and assistance in the supervision of technical staff and
faculty members that utilize this facility. 
Primary duties include:
*  Performing complex multiparameter analysis of cells using the FACS
instrumentation.
*  Identifying and sorting cell populations based on surface markers and/or
dye exclusion; 
*  Identifying and isolating stem cell populations in single cell suspension
from various tissues and organs using flow cytometry based techniques; 
*  Assisting with hiring of and supervision of any support staff for the
flow cytometry core laboratory facility including training, scheduling,
coordinating and delegating work, monitoring and evaluating performance; 
*  Working directly with the research faculty planning experiments and
advising on the best use of sophisticated instrumentation; 
*  Responsible for data collection, data management and preparation of data
presentation for publication;
*  Assisting investigators in the preparation of grants where this
technology would be used; 
*  Administering day-to-day laboratory operations including monitoring the
budget, ensuring quality control and safety compliance, overseeing
laboratory maintenance, and ordering of supplies; 
*  Performing independent projects; compiling, analyzing, and interpreting
research data and/or test information and research techniques; and
records/reports results. 
REQUIREMENTS:
Requires Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry and/or related field and
five years experience including 2 years of directly related flow cytometry
experience. The preferred candidate would have one year of direct
supervision or responsibility for training, work coordination, and
monitoring the work of others and extensive knowledge and experience in flow
cytometry and its application as evidenced by years of experience and
publications.  May require training related to occupational safety and
health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or
ionizing radiation.
