At the Department of Infectious Diseases, Umeå University, Umeå, Sweden,
mechanisms behind the host response against facultative intracellular
bacteria are studied. Since many years, a project has studied the host
response against the model organism Francisella tularensis LVS, an
attenuated strain used as a live vaccine against human tularemia. We are now
looking for a post-doctoral fellow to continue ongoing work on the role of
cytokines and nitric oxide in an experimental model (mouse) of tularemia
with F. tularensis LVS as a causative agent. Established techniques include
cytokine measurements by ELISA, immunohistochemistry, and cytokine detection
by FACS analysis after intracellular staining. The successful candidate
should have experience of one or several of the techniques mentioned as well
as of cellular immunology in general. The appointment is for 2 years. There
will be extensive interaction with other members of the group, comprising 8
individuals. If interested please contact Anders Sjostedt.
