How can you reduce macrophage autofluorescence?

Would anyone be able to supply a method for reducing macrophage
autofluorescence on flow cytometry with GFP (FITC) bacteria ? The
background fluorescence seems stronger than my signal. Can Trypan blue or
ethidium bromide be used with good results ?

Thank you very much for your replies,
